John Prine – Crooked Piece of Time: The Atlantic & Asylum Albums (1971-1980), just dropped to £30.30 on amazon UK pre-order. Not out until 23rd, but almost £6 lower than it was £35.99 for 7 albums.
My Howard Jones, Tears for Fears, and Ultravox are already on their way! I believe I’ve only bought 3 other super deluxe sets so far this year (HoJo, Marillion, Prince), so this doubles my intake. I would have also been interested in the Divine Comedy set if I could afford it – I received an email from Amazon UK last week about it being available again (so, maybe that’s a promising sign for them honouring their discounted listing). Gotta be the biggest single day release lot I’ve bought in a very long time.
The divine comedy box is 99.99 gbp on amazon.co.uk but its temporary out of stock
Shipped to the USA it was under $120 with cheapest shipping
I don’t think Amazon actually have any stock to ship, so buyer beware…
well if the restock is in November, maybe that is when amazon.co.uk is going to get their shipment. If so I am fine waiting a month to save $40 or more on the order
I thought the Visage CDs were excellent. The initial issues seemed flat and dull. The Rubellan remasters have given the albums some much needed punch without destroying them or the dynamics. And the bonus tracks are a treat.
If we want to discuss poor remastering I’d start with the Soft Cell Keychains and Snowstorms Boxed Set and single CD sonic debacle. So many discs, ruined by bad remastering.
too much good stuff…suddenly it seems like there are sde’s that interest me are coming out of the woodwork…like tff, howard jones, prince, shakespears sister, and now jewel next month…love it…have kept it down to three so far (tff, jewel, and shakespears sister), and streamed the ones i didn’t get…my favourite time of year
I’m dreading what Amazon will do with my 8 coloured vinyl Kraftwerk LPs this week. I had to return New Order’s seminal 12″ Blue Monday TWICE to them over the weekend! The first one had a bent cover, the second had a spine split and something had scraped across half the cover leaving an imprint.
The third arrived today and was OK. None of them had been packed in proper record mailers, just loose in an oversized box with inadequate brown paper scrunched ‘padding’.
PS. That Divine Comedy box DOES look good. Tempted….
Amazon are terrible at the moment where shipping vinyl is concerned. I got a box today that you could fit a small lawnmower in that was literally packed with paper and had one (double) vinyl lying on the bottom. The recycling bin was only emptied this morning and this nonsense has taken up a quarter of it already! If every other record shop in the world can use proper mailers, why can’t they?
Love the unboxing vid, how do I get the picture disc ?
It’s on uDiscover and a few other places > https://store.udiscovermusic.com/*/*/The-Seeds-Of-Love-Exclusive-Picture-Disc/6O1P0000000
Thanks. The unboxing vid was ace .
The week I’ve been waiting for all year, seeing as 2020 is a nightmare which hopefully will end soon.

What is it about Rubellan that people like? I’ve had 3 of their discs and sold em on. I don’t think the remastering is anything. I actually hated the sound on the Visage CDs.

mariah carey show since july this year how can a star celebrate the 30th anniversary. with weekly ‘promotional campaign releases’ of original singles remixes/dub mixes/ unreleased remixes and more. also she released special spanish versions, her first ever live debut from 1990
and this week “the rarities”. b-sides, rare songs and unreleased material from 30 years.
others stars should take a look at this fantastic campaign. this is how i want a career-spanning retrospective. 10 out of 10.
Wow, mammoth release week indeed, but somehow, my purchases took a breather…the only thing on that list that is coming is the Tears For Fears Seeds box…ordered the 4CD Suede from Rough Trade (it got pushed back a week?? Must be why my order didn’t come in yet)… catching up on all prior purchases (a lot, espesh the Prince SOTT & Richard and Linda Thompson boxes)…next week I have the new Kiki Dee Motown/Fontana set, and the 23rd has 3 big sets…Bob Mould, John Prine and er, Menswear, haha…and looking to finally get the big Supergrass box, hopefully in a trade for my other SOTT bonus box…do want that Divine Comedy set too…hope it’s not sold out…
Surely they could have found a better picture of the late, great Rory Gallagher than that?
In case anyone who’s interested doesn’t know it, Midge Ure is hosting a Vienna Tim Burgess Twitter Listening Party tonight at 8.
Ooh thanks for that.
Missed Pelican West and North of a Miracle both of which are albums I adore.
If anyone is unaware of Tim Burgess of The Charlatans listening parties on Twitter, during lockdown he’s been getting artists to discuss their albums while listening along to them.
You just need to be able to listen to the album in question and read the comments in real time. He even got Peter Hook and Stephen Morris of New Order talking about their debut album.
Most of the parties are available to replay so check what’s available on the website. You don’t need a twitter account to view all the comments.

Tears for fears.
Looks like my listening for this month is sorted all preprdered
I cannot believe that I’d completely forgotten about the Divine Comedy box coming this week. It’s been so long since the email about the delay and even longer since I ordered it… before lockdown, in fact! Well, that should keep me busy once I’ve exhausted The Seeds Of Love! Thanks for jogging my WFH-addled memory, Paul :D
I saw the Duran Duran teaser on their Instagram. 12” vinyl of New Order’s new single Be A Rebel is due to be released 13 November with remixes from Bernard and Stephen, standard version available now on streaming/download.
Could I ask if anyone knows if the Divine Comedy Albums will be re issued as Double LPs please?, and with those Abbey Road sash strips?.
The LPs are single vinyl but in gatefold sleeves and with download cards that have a stack of bonus material included. I don’t think they have sash/OBI strips, even though they’ve been remastered at Abbey Road.
I believe the Divine Comedy vinyl albums are ‘simply’ reissues of the original LPs i.e. no extra content. The extra content comes with the CDs which are doubles.
Can’t say I have seen Abbey Road sash strips/Obis on any of the images I have seen so far (but then again it’s not something I particular care about so I ca’t say I would have paid much attention). Not long to wait now to find out for sure…
Thanks for clarifying, appreciated.
I thought the Divine C los came with a download card for the extra tracks. Worth checking their website
Bout 3 of self isolation enforced yesterday. Still got SOTT to listen to and had the TFF super deluxe on order. Won’t be spending much for the next fortnight so just ordered Vienna super deluxe, Now 7, Breakout (2CD) – Pointer Sisters and it threw up Private Dancer (2CD) as a recommendation (had no idea it had been released expended) so stuck that in the basket as well. Also ordered Dead mans shoes on Dvd as I can’t find on any streaming platform so I should be kept busy.
The fantastic reissue of the Berlin album Pleasure Victim from the Rubellan Remasters label is given a larger release on October 9 too. Highly recommended and it sounds amazing, and is double the size with seven extra tracks. Paul, please give some love to this one because the label has said their other Berlin release keeps selling out, so this one could be a game changer for them.

Mark, thanks for the heads-up on this one. Didn’t know anything about this till I read your note – now pre-ordered!
I also think Paul should endorse the Rubellan label. It’s a shame they have so much trouble licensing stuff from major labels…
I see Elvis Costello has finally announced the deluxe box set of Armed Forces. Very very expensive at around the £200 mark for what you get. There is an exclusive coloured vinyl edition from Recordstore which costs a whopping extra £50 extra with identical content. At those prices the least he could have done was to sign them. But he only signs for his US fans from his US store these days.
Spend £50 today instore at HMV, you get £10 off.
Don’t forget their prices are hiked up already before discount. The staff at my Ipswich store are generally young, wannabe hipsters who haven’t the foggiest idea of vinyl and about my own personal taste in music – the eighties.
HMV are nearly, always my last resort.
DURAN DURAN news coming soon…….
New album????
MullerMuller, my guess would be an announcement about Hyde Park for Summer 2021? They just announced Pearl Jam’s 2 show dates, moved from this year (but, like DD’s show, all tickets were refunded, but they have a program of pre-sales for those who had tickets originally to get priority this time). I wonder if DD’s show is rescheduled and maybe that is what is coming?
What a great week indeed. Looking forward to The Divine Comedy vinyl reissues.
What a great week indeed.
Also out the new Blue Oyster Cult album, The Symbol Remains. Their first new album since 2001.
Yes I’m looking forward the the new BÖC album too. Shame that there’s been a delay on the various coloured vinyl copies direct from the Frontiers webstore. I was doing my best to reduce my Amazon purchases but I maybe should have stuck with the black vinyl from them. It would have been cheaper (free shipping) and probably on time!
Also out: Kathryn Williams, ‘Anthology’ (20 cd box of 10 albums, each with a bonus disc); https://kathrynwilliams1.bandcamp.com/album/kathryn-williams-anthology
That’s been out for a couple of years. Really great set.
Looking forward to the Ultravox arriving, not looking forward to watching it being put away until 25th December…..
Mammoth week for releases. Personally I am waiting on:
– The Divine Comedy releases (ordered on CD and Vinyl from their store)
– Ultravox Vienna 40th anniversary (ordered on CD and vinyl from their store)
– A-ha album (ordered from SDE I think)
– Tears for Fears (also ordered from SDE I think)
– XTC Nonsuch (god knows where I ordered that one from)
Nothing coming from Amazon – in keeping with my general policy of trying to order less from them (mainly on principle of trying to support others but also partly due to their terrible packaging habits)
