German Deal: 3 for €25 for deluxe CDs

Amazon in Germany are back with a fine 3-for-€25 deal on CD sets including triple CDs, 2CD+DVDs, SACDs and ‘album collection’ 5CD sets. Some great titles here including recent R.E.M. deluxe editions, classic rock titles from the likes of Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band, Paul McCartney, The Moody Blues, Roxy Music and Mike Oldfield, as well as some great pop from Crowded House, Jellyfish, Nik Kershaw.

David Bowie / Conversation Piece review


In 1989 Rykodisc included a previously unreleased demo of David Bowie‘s ‘Space Oddity’ in their Sound + Vision box. 30 years later that same demo is included on CD again on Conversation Piece, a five-CD music box set that could well be the best Bowie reissue for decades.

Pet Shop Boys to call time on CD singles?

Yesterday the Pet Shop Boys announced another single from their forthcoming album, Hotspot. ‘Burning The Heather’ features Bernard Butler on guitar and had already been made available on YouTube etc. but it will be coming out as a ‘proper’ single on 13 December. So far so good, but the unfunny joke in this Christmas cracker is that the ‘single packages,’ as they described them, do not include a CD single.

Murphy’s Law: INXS manager on ‘band to brand’ and the music industry in 2019

Chris Murphy managed INXS from 1979-1995 before returning in 2009 with a self-proclaimed desire to re-energise the interest in the group by turning the band into a brand.

2017 saw the acclaimed Kick 30 reissue – featuring a Dolby Atmos surround mix by Giles Martin – hit the shops and this year has seen the release of Mystify: A Musical Journey With Michael Hutchence (a wonderful companion to the Mystify documentary) and a restored version of the Live Baby Live concert film which is receiving a theatrical run in the UK at the moment. The newly remixed soundtrack is out today.
