The very first Now That’s What I Call Music compilation, issued in the UK in November 1983, has been reissued a number of times but the second volume, which followed four months after the first in March 84, is to be released on CD for the first time in April.

SDEtv: UK v Japanese CD packaging, featuring Trevor Horn’s new album

Is the demise of the CD a self-fulfilling prophecy? Record labels are sometimes guilty of either not issuing new releases on the format (see volume two of Sony’s Bruce Springsteen‘s album collection box set and yesterday’s Marvin Gaye announcement from Universal) or putting out a CD so lacklustre in terms of packaging and presentation, that even the most diehard physical music fan might start questioning their commitment to the format.

Canadian music chain Sunrise Records acquires HMV

HMV in the UK has been saved from going under. It has been bought by Doug Putman, owner of the Sunrise Records chain in Canada. The businessman actually acquired HMV in Canada a couple of years ago and rebranded them as Sunrise Records, but there are no such plans in the UK.

Peter Jackson to revamp The Beatles ‘Let It Be’ film from original footage

Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson, best known for his Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, is collaborating with The Beatles to produce a new film from the 55 hours of footage originally filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg for what turned into ‘the intimate bioscopic experience’ that was 1970’s Let It Be motion picture.
