SDEtv has a special sneak preview unboxing video of The Virgin Years, which you can watch below.

SDE Shop exclusive offers Peel Session CD free with all Evergreen pre-orders
London Records are to reissue Echo & The Bunnymen’s triumphant 1997 ‘comeback’ album Evergreen, which was notable for featuring the UK top 10 hit ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’.
The album has been remastered and will be issued on vinyl for the very first time. It will also be available as an expanded 2CD deluxe edition with 21 bonus tracks. Exclusive to the SDE shop is a 4-track CD EP called Peel Session1997. This features four tracks recorded at Maida Vale and broadcast on 16 September 1997, three of which are previously unreleased (‘Rescue’ was on CD 2 of the of 1997 2CD special edition).
‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ was the band’s first top 10 hit in the UK since 1984’s ‘The Killing Moon’
Evergreen marked a critical and commercial renaissance for the band after more than half a decade’s hiatus. In January 1997 Will Sergeant, Les Pattinson and Ian McCulloch came back together in a recording studio for the first time in ten years. The band entered Doghouse studios in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, as fate would have it at the same time as Oasis, leading to ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ featuring a 24-year-old Liam Gallagher on backing “yeah, yeah, yeah!”s and tambourine shakes.
The album entered the UK chart at number eight, in July 1997 and while the two further singles may not have repeated the success of the first, they were certainly popular enough and well played on the radio at the time (they were ‘I Want To Be There (When You Come)’ (#30) and ‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’ (#50)).
‘Just A Touch Away’ is highlighted by Ian McCulloch as one of the best songs on the album
This was the era in the UK of releasing two CD singles (CD 1 & CD 2) and so there were plenty of bonus tracks to go around. In fact remarkably, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ had six new studio recordings across the seven-inch vinyl and both CD singles. All six of those tracks are appended to the album on the first disc in the forthcoming 2CD deluxe edition. The second disc consists of live tracks and some radio sessions (mostly acoustic).
Speaking about the album today, Ian McCulloch is modest enough. He says it contains “at least three great songs, which is three more than most bands have in their entire catalogue”. He’s referring to ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’, ‘Forgiven’ and ‘Just A Touch Away’.
Evergreen will be reissued on 9 December 2022 (was 18 November), via London Records. The SDE-exclusive Peel Session 1997 CD is limited and numbered and is supplied FREE with any order of the 2CD, vinyl or the bundle.

ToyahLive at the Rainbow was issued on VHS back in 1981 (and later on laserdisc) but now gets the full reissue treatment with remixed and remastered audio on vinyl and CD as well as a DVD with restored visuals.
The concert was in February 1981 at London’s iconic Rainbow Theatre and includes a performance of ‘It’s A Mystery’. Such was that single’s success (it reached number four as part of the ‘Four From Toyah’ EP) it prompted a gig upgrade from the Lyceum Theatre to The Rainbow.
Live at the Rainbow was originally a 12-song video, but on CD it has been expanded with with seven additional tracks, all previously unheard and unreleased; restored exclusively for this release. These include ‘Bird In Flight’, ‘Mummies’, ‘Computer’ and ‘Love Me’. Three of these seven songs are in mono because the original multi-track masters could not be found. The coloured blue vinyl edition doesn’t include the mono tracks and is therefore a 16-song offering.
For this release, the original multitrack reels have been revisited and remixed by Nick Watson at Fluid Mastering to create a new full stereo mix of the gig for the first time. The video runs for 53 minutes and features restored pictures sync’d to the newly remixed/remastered audio. The DVD is region-free, NTSC and is paired with the CD for a two-disc combo-pack.
All audio remastering was approved by Joel Bogen and Toyah Willcox provides a new introduction in the 24-page booklet which contains live photography by Barry Plummer and new notes by Craig Astley, Toyah’s official archivist.
Live at the Rainbow will be released on 25 November 2022, via Cherry Red.

A Dolby Atmos Mix of FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE, the forthcoming album from Brian Eno, will be released exclusively via SDE as a limited edition blu-ray audio.
Eno needs no introduction. Musician, producer, visual artist and activist, he first came to international prominence in the early Seventies as a founding member of Roxy Music, followed by a series of solo albums and collaborations. His work as producer includes albums with Talking Heads (such as Fear of Music and Remain in Light), Devo, U2 (The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby et al), Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, while his long list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie (Low, Heroes, Lodger & Outside), Jon Hassell, Harold Budd, John Cale, David Byrne, Grace Jones and most recently with his brother, Roger, on Mixing Colours. In August 2021, they performed together for the very first time at the Acropolis in Athens.
Brian Eno’s visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career, with exhibitions and installations all over the globe. To date, he has released over forty solo albums including Here Come The Warm Jets, Another Green World, Ambient 1: Music for Airports, Apollo: Atmosphere and Soundtracks, Small Craft On A Milk Sea and Lux to name just a few. In April 2021, he launched EarthPercent, which raises money from the music industry for some of the most impactful environmental charities working on the climate emergency.
About the new album
FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE is Eno’s 22nd studio album and was recorded in his West London and Norfolk studios. The long-player sees Brian sing on the majority of tracks for the first time on an album since 2005’s Another Day On Earth.
It includes the song ‘There Were Bells’ which concerns the current climate emergency, a theme that is explored throughout the album and ‘We Let It In’, a haunting hymnal in which Eno’s daughter Darla sings an angelic counterpoint to Brian’s vocal.
The albumis made up of 10 distinct songs and Brian has experimented on the record using tonal over major chord changes. Of it, he says, “My voice has changed, it’s lowered, it’s become a different personality I can sing from. I don’t want to sing like a teenager, it can be melancholic, a bit regretful. As for writing songs again – it’s more landscapes, but this time with humans in them.
I like creating worlds, that’s what I do as an artist. Now after quite a long absence of humans in those worlds I have tried putting one in and seeing how they feel in the world I’ve made.”
‘We Let It In’ from FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE. This sounds wonderful mixed in Dolby Atmos.
What is the SDE Surround Series?
For the uninitiated, The SDE Surround Series is an ongoing collaboration between SuperDeluxeEdition.com and likeminded artists and record labels, where we deliver spatial audio via physical product. The products are available exclusively via theSDEshop.com and the programme started in January this year, with a blu-ray audio of Tears For Fears’ acclaimed album The Tipping Point. That was quickly followed by xPropaganda’sThe Heart Is Strange, Gilbert O’Sullivan’sDriven and most recently Shakespears Sister’sHormonally Yours (due later this month). SDE is proud to announce FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE as the fifth release in this series – thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for these products.
The SDE-exclusive blu-ray audio of FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE will be available to pre-order for two weeks only and will feature the following audio streams:
Dolby Atmos Mix
Stereo Mix (48 kHz / 24 bit)
Naturally, the Atmos Mix was created by Brian Eno himself. He pushed the boundaries with this spatial audio version (would you have expected anything less?). This is what the mix engineer, Emre Ramazanoglu, had to say about Brian’s work on the Atmos Mix of FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE:
It was fascinating approaching this Atmos mix with Brian in the room. He approached the mix in an extremely unorthodox fashion, removing the concept of a ‘front’ in the mix stage. It’s a fully immersive experience unlike others I have mixed. The song was still kept at the heart of the Atmos transformation though and he paid enormous attention to the position of each element and how that supported the piece as a whole. There will be also be differences from the stereo mix other than the spatial reimagining, due to the creative process that involved certain elements being subtly different from the original stereo masters.
Emre Ramazanoglu, Mix Engineer for the album
I have heard the Atmos Mix and concur with Emre. It’s spectacular spatial audio mix of a wonderfully atmospheric album. This is one you do not want to miss!
The SDE-exclusive blur-ray order of the album comes with a numbered (#5) SDE slipcase (click to enlarge)
The benefits of spatial audio via physical product
Reasons you should own this blu-ray:
It’s the only way to enjoy the Dolby Atmos mix of the album via a physical product
You don’t need to sign-up to a streaming service such as Tidal or Apple Music to hear the spatial audio mix
The Atmos Mix on the blu-ray is not compressed, whereas it is on streaming due to bandwidth restrictions
You own the product, you are not renting it from a digital service provider
The blu-ray audio is an excellent format for music and you don’t want to see it die off
Supporting SDE with these initiatives leads to similar collaborations with labels/artists and we are keen to bring your more in the near future
The pre-order window for this limited edition blu-ray audio opens todayand will close in 14 days’ timeon 29 September. Numbers manufactured will be published at a later date, so you will know just how limited this physical product is. Additionally, this blu-ray will ship with a numbered SDE collectors’ slipcase.
FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE on SDE-exclusive blu-ray will be released on 14 October 2022 in collaboration with UMC. Pre-order the blu-ray by using this linkto the SDE shop or the button below. For more spatial audio on the SDE shop, go here.
TECHNICAL NOTES: This blu-ray audio requires a blu-ray player. Decoding the Dolby Atmos mix requires a Dolby Atmos-certified soundbar or a Dolby Atmos-compatible AV Receiver/Amp. The Dolby Atmos mix will ‘fold down’ to 5.1 or stereo if a Dolby Atmos decoder is not detected.
EU SHIPPING NOTES: If you are ordering from the EU please be aware that that goods may be subject to import VAT when they arrive from the UK. The prices the SDE shop charge you do not include VAT
Next month, the Now That’s What I Call Music Team are to release NOW Yearbook ’79 Extra, a 3CD companion to the original NOW Yearbook ’79 that was issued last week.
This triple-disc package features 67 hits from 1979 and includes a decent selection of big names and some less predictable offerings.
The final disc sees a reprise from Blondie (‘Sunday Girl’) and runs the gamut from Boney M.‘s ‘Painter Man’ to BA Robertson’s ‘Knocked It Off’! You’ll find music from Earth, Wind & Fire, Barry White, Commodores, Toto, Thin Lizzy and Status Quo. It signs off with Macca’s Wonderful Christmastime, the Christmas song everyone pretends to hate.
NOW Yearbook Extra 1979 will be released on 21 October 2022.
SDEtv takes a look at the recent CD reissues of Duran Duran’sPop Trash, Astronaut, Red Carpet Massacre and All You Need Is Now albums. How do these new BMG re-releases compare to the originals in terms of track listing and presentation? Watch the unboxing video!
The picture disc, with the infamous ‘toe-sucking’ image (taken from Madge’s Sex book), was withdrawn before release back in 1992, but it will now be issued later year.
The three-track single features the album version, the instrumental and the radio edit of Erotica. It’s a ‘limited edition’ although it’s not clear just how limited this may be.
Erotica will be released on 21 October 2022, via Warner Records.
Voice of the Beehive’s 1988 debut album Let It Bee will be reissued and expanded in November.
In the late 1980s, Californian sisters Tracey Bryn and Melissa Brooke Belland escaped the American music industry in search of the vibrant British indie scene. They formed a band and signed to London Records.
Success came almost immediately. Let It Bee was a hit album and featured quite a few singles, including ‘I Say Nothing’, ‘I Walk The Earth’ and the band’s best known 45, ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’.
For the reissue there’s a 2CD edition everything is remastered and it features a massive 29 bonus tracks, including previously unreleased tracks, live versions, ‘Bee-Sides’ and demos. One of the extra songs is the rather good ‘Cartoon City’, a band favourite recently uncovered from the London Records archives. The 2CD set comes with a 30-page booklet with notes by the band’s very own Tracey Belland.
A remastered gatefold vinyl edition pressed on transparent honey yellow will also be made available. No bonus tracks on this edition but it does feature Belland’s new sleeve notes.
This reissue is being promoted initially via the band’s own official store. The coloured vinyl is available with a print signed by all members of the band and there’s also ‘The Bees Knees’ a fanzine from 1987, which includes photos, talks with the band, lyrics, anecdotes from fans and more. There are also bundles with a special 3-track promo CD, with an exclusive piano version of ‘Oh Love’.
Full 16-track edition of the 2021 album on coloured vinyl
Duran Duran’sFuture Past album from 2021 will be reissued in November as a double vinyl package, dubbed ‘The Complete Edition’.
You might recall that the CD edition of the album featured 12 tracks. This was widely assumed to be the ‘standard’ version of the album. However, two tracks – ‘Nothing Less’ and ‘Hammerhead’ – were missing from the vinyl edition, making that a 10-track affair.
To further confuse matters, the deluxe CD featured three further songs – ‘Velvet Newton’, ‘Laughing Boy’ and ‘Invocation’ – so that boasted 15 tracks, and to top it all off, there was a Japanese deluxe CD that added Duran Duran’s Mike Garson-assisted cover of David Bowie’s ‘Five Years’ as the penultimate song, meaning that ‘won’ the track listing battle with 16 songs.
The new ‘Complete Edition’ offers all 16 tracks from the Japanese CD spread over two vinyl records. The first LP is red while the second is green. The gatefold package features a new silver/grey version of the cover art and also includes two 12″ x 12″ art booklets.
The 2LP ‘Complete Edition’ of Future Past (click image to enlarge)
This is of course good news for vinyl fans who felt hard done by with the 10-track edition, although there will be plenty who will think they’ve already spent enough on Future Past vinyl, what with all the coloured variants at the time. One anomaly is that ‘Five Years’ still remains officially unissued on CD, in the UK.
Future Past: The Complete Edition 2LP set will be issued on 25 November 2022.
PInk Floyd/Animals 2018 mixCD, Vinyl, Box Set, Blu-ray
The deluxe edition of Pink Floyd’sAnimals reissue is out this week. It’s a CD+blu-ray+DVD+LP set. The duplication of blu-ray and DVD feels a little bit ‘2018’ which makes sense because that’s when this was conceived. A reminder that you can still order the blu-ray audio edition directly from SDE.
Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years (deluxe sets)
Best known as the frontman for The Clash, between 1999-2002 Joe Strummer recorded with The Mescaleros. Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years is the first comprehensive collection highlighting this short but intense period of creativity. It includes the albums Rock Art and the X-Ray Style (1999), Global A Go-Go (2001), the posthumous Streetcore (2003), and Vibes Compass, a brand-new compilation of 15 B-sides and rarities, including never before heard tracks like ‘Ocean of Dreams’ (featuring Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols on guitar) and early demos.
Both the 4CD and 7LP boxes include four reproduction lyric sheets and chord charts, and the LP box includes an exclusive 12”x12” art print.
A State Of Grace is the long-awaited new album from The House of Love. It was written and recorded by Guy Chadwick between COVID lockdowns. Chadwick says: “It is the best set of songs I have written for years and the pandemic ironically gave me the time and space to develop and arrange the songs”.
Fourth studio album by the American rock band Wilco is reissued as two enormous super deluxe editions. The 8CDs or 12LPs include demos, drafts and instrumentals, charting the making of ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’ – plus a live 2002 concert recording and a September 2001 radio performance and interview.
Siouxsie Sioux has personally curated a new compilation of Siouxsie and the Banshees classic tracks and rarities called All Souls.
This vinyl-only release is themed as an ‘Autumnal celebration’ and opens with the 12-inch version of 1982’s ‘Fireworks’ (one of three singles) and closes with ‘Peek-A-Boo’ from 1988’s Peepshow. Other selections include B-sides ‘El Dia De Los Muertos’, ‘Something Wicked (This Way Comes)’ and ‘Supernatural Thing’.
All Souls is an ‘Autumnal Celebrations’ (click image to enlarge)
All the tracks have been remastered at Abbey Road studios (with Siouxsie overseeing the process) and the vinyl has been cut at half-speed by Miles Showell. The record is available on black or limited orange vinyl.
The cover (art directed by Siouxsie) features a marigold; the symbolic flower of the Mexican Day of the Dead/All Souls Day festivities.
All Souls will be released on 21 October 2022. There is no CD edition.
The Police’s fourth album, 1981’s Ghost in the Machine, will be reissued as a vinyl picture disc with a rejigged track listing, in November.
This alternate track listing was apparently genuinely considered for release (a production master was created) and the sequencing features three additional tracks: ‘I Burn For You’ (the single mix from the ‘Brimstone and Treacle’ soundtrack), ‘Once Upon A Daydream’ (ultimately saved for the flipside of 1983’s ‘Synchronicity II’ and ‘Shambelle’ (which ended up as the B-side to ‘Invisible Sun’).
The single mix of ‘I Burn For You’ features on the vinyl picture disc of Ghost in the Machine.
There is another change. The songs ‘Spirits In The Material World’, ‘Rehumanise Yourself’, ‘One World (Not Three)’ and ‘Hungry For You’ allfeature Stewart Copeland counting in the tracks. This audio does not feature on the 1981 release.
Side A of this picture disc features the logo image from the front cover and side B features the inner sleeve image.
A curious release, for sure, this vinyl picture disc will be issued on 4 November 2022, via UMC/Polydor. No other formats are available.
The next in the series of Depeche Mode 12-inch singles boxes will be issued in November. Playing The Angel: The12″ Singles spotlights the remixes from the band’s 11th studio album, originally issued back in 2005.
The four singles were ‘Precious’, ‘A Pain That I’m Used To’, ‘Suffer Well‘, and ‘John The Revelator/Lilian‘. This new box set contains ten 12-inch singles which equals the record of the Violator box from 2020.
The Playing The Angel: The 12″ Singles (click image to enlarge)
This box actually does something new, in that it features replicates both 12-inch singles for each single from the original era (plus limited edition single ‘The Darkest Star’) and then adds something called ‘Playing The Angel Promotional Collection’ on a final 12-inch, which gathers single versions, B-sides and other remixes. This is probably because some of this content was issued on CD at the time but not on 12-inch vinyl.
Playing The Angel: The 12″ Singles will be released on 11 November 2022. As usual the set comes with a poster and a download card.
The reissue of The Beatles’ 1966 album Revolver has been officially confirmed and is coming in late October. There will be six physical formats, including a 5CD super deluxe edition and a 4LP+7″ super deluxe.
All formats offer a new stereo mix by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, sourced “directly from the original four-track master tapes” and utilising Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films’ cutting edge ‘de-mixing’ technology, which allows the separation of music previously ‘bounced down’ and fused together on one track.
Revolver 5CD super deluxe (click image to enlarge)
The 5CD edition offers the stereo mix, two discs of ‘Sessions’ (outtakes, rehearsals and demos), a CD featuring the original mono mix “from the original master tape” and finally, a four-track EP which features new stereo mixes of non-album single ‘Paperback Writer’/’Rain’, along with the original mono versions.
Controversially, there is no blu-ray with the CD box set. Every Beatles CD box set since the album reissues started back in 2017, has contained a blu-ray with a spatial audio mix (Sgt. Pepper actually had a blu-ray and a DVD) so to omit this from Revolver is a strange decision. An Atmos Mix has been created but it is simply not being made available physically, which is going to disappoint many fans. No blu-ray also denies us a hi-res stereo version of the new mix on a physical format.
The 2022 new stereo mix of Taxman
Revolver 4LP+7″ super deluxe edition (click image to enlarge)
The 4LP vinyl super deluxe matches the content of the 5CD set. The four-track EP is a seven-inch single in this edition. Both super deluxe sets feature a 100-page hardcover book which showcases Klaus Voorman’s original artwork, features a foreword by Paul McCartney, chapters by Kevin Howlett and an essay by Questlove.
The other formats are a 2CD edition, a single vinyl LP, a single CD and a vinyl picture disc (D2C only). The 2CD set offers highlights from the sessions on the bonus CD, the new stereo remixes of ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Rain’ and a 40-page booklet. Amazon in the US have an exclusive version of the single vinyl (with the new stereo mix) which includes a Revolver slipmat. However, it is $10 more expensive than the standard vinyl listing on the same site.
Revolver will be reissued on 28 October 2022 via UMC/Apple. Pre-order links will be updated throughout the day, so check back.
Garbage will release Anthology, a new greatest hits compilation, next month.
This release will be available as a 2CD set featuring “hits and classic album tracks” from their 1995 self-titled debut through to last year’s No Gods No Masters. The CD set boasts 35 tracks in total, including a rare recording called ‘Witness to Your Love’.
A 2LP version pressed on transparent yellow vinyl will also be made available. As you might expect, this is more of a cut-down selection, with 20 tracks across the four sides of vinyl, although ‘Witness to Your Love’ is included.
The first official vinyl release of Duran Duran’s 1997 album Medazzaland will be pressed on vinyl cut at 45RPM, SDE can reveal.
This fact has been confirmed by sticker on the album artwork. All things being equal, 45RPM should offer better quality sound, although of course we need a good mastering in the first place.
The other thing to clear up is that there is no black vinyl edition of Medazzaland. The 2LP set is only available pressed on ‘limited edition’ neon pink vinyl. Just how limited this double vinyl set will be is not exactly clear right now, but SDE would hazard a guess at perhaps four or five thousand. Click the image below to get a good look at the vinyl artwork.

Medazzaland is also being reissued on CD. Since the album wasn’t issued at all in the UK, back in the day, like the vinyl it’s not technically a reissue for those in Britain.
Both formats will be released on 14 October 2022. More info on the original SDE post, but you can see pre-order links and track listing, below.
